What the heck is Pickleball?
Pickleball is a sport which combines elements of badminton, tennis and ping-pong. It is played by two or four people on a court with the same dimensions as a badminton court.
It is presently the fastest growing sport in North America as it is suited for all ages and abilities. Pickleball can be as gentle or as wicked as one chooses for both young and old.
Pickleball will begin on Sept. 25 and every Tuesday thereafter, open from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Eagle River Secondary School.
Accessibility to the school gym, setup and provision of equipment is being made possible as a fundraising project for the ERS Athletic department.
Drop-in fees will be $4 per adult and $3.50 for seniors, ERS students no charge.
The first two Tuesdays (Sept. 25 and Oct. 2) will be free. It is an open house invitation for people to come and try it out.
Volunteers will be on hand to introduce first-time players to the basics of the game. They can also let you know how this sport got dubbed with such a weird name.
