Preston Tucker scored twice as Turn-Key Controls shut down NOD Eagle Homes 4-0 in North Okanagan Soccer League play Wednesday night at MacDonald Park.
Turn-Key applied heavy pressure all game, but couldn’t beat the well-trained Eagle Homes’ keeper until the last quarter of the game. The scoreless first half was pretty even.
Total Restoration Save of the Game goes to Turn-Key’s Reid Foerter for his determination to stop a 2-on-1 while falling over at the top of his own penalty area.
Nate Gatenby flew across the air to win a header that ended up sending Thomas Pool through on a breakaway to start the scoring for Turn-Key, third at 5-3-1.
Not long later, Turn-Key put the ball in the box and Tucker, earning the Nolan’s Pharamsave Man of the Match, did a nifty chest ball turn, and a right foot volley just inside the near post to make it 2-0.
Enzo Paal then converted a 25-yard free kick while the keeper was setting up the wall. Tucker finished the scoring in the dying minutes with a left-footer the keeper touched before the ball just rolled in.
Peters Tirecraft lost 3-2 to the Revelstoke Stallions at Salmon Arm Savings & Credit Union Sports Fields.
The 4-5 Stallions opened the scoring in the first half with a bullet to the top corner, but Tirecraft answered midway through the half when Mike Conlin put a ball across the box for Andy Collins to knock in the back of the net.
The duo of Collins and Conlin terrorized the Revelstoke back line all match. Revelstoke went up 2-1 in the second half and Conlin equalized with a spectacular run and finish.
Revelstoke went up 3-2 and despite owning most of the pressure, Tirecraft (1-6-2) couldn’t find a way to finish them off. Christian DeMelleville was the Longhorn Man of the Match for Tirecraft.
Host Salmon Arm Courvas clipped North Enderby Timber 1-0 in a first-place showdown.Both teams are 8-1.
Monashee Surveying outlasted the host Salmon Arm Outlaws 5-3 at Blackburn Park. The Surveyors are 2-6-1, the Outlaws 2-6-1.
There are no games this Canada Day. Play resumes Wednesday, July 8 with the Timber battling the Outlaws at MacDonald Park.
The other Vernon teams travel to the Shuswap with Monashee facing Courvas, Turn-Key meeting Revy and Tirecraft taking on Eagle Homes.
