Twilight run coming to Chemainus

The 27th annual Legion Twilight Shuffle will be dashing through Chemainus on Tuesday, June 14.

Race director and Chemainus native Phil Nicholls said the Twilight Shuffle is the second oldest running event on the Island.

“It has had winners who were Olympians, triathletes and Africans,” he said. “It has hosted the provincial championships, northwest championships, masters championships.”

This year, former hockey players Bruce and Geoff Courtnall plan to be running in Chemainus, Nicholls said. “Both brothers made the transition to running from skating with relative ease.  Geoff is just a good running shoe away from a sub three hour marathon.”

Funds raised from the run are dispersed to the local community and Island charities. Proceeds from this year’s run will be given to the Archie Courtnall Centre for mental health in Victoria.

The grand-prize draw is a custom, framed golf shirt from the first Courtnall Classic signed by all of the celebrities who took part.  As an added incentive for locals to get involved, the first male and female Chemainus residents to cross the finish line will receive $100.

Island Runner in partnership with Oakley Canada will be the Platinum level sponsor of this event again.

The race will begin at 7 p.m. on Willow Street in Chemainus. Registration can be dropped off at Island Runner up until Monday, June 13, then all day of the run in Chemainus. Participants can register as late as the race day between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., however a higher fee will apply.
