One week after the women hit the mats at Exhibition Park, it was the men’s turn.
Athletes from all across B.C., Nova Scotia, and even Japan came to Abbotsford to compete at the Twisters Invitational men’s meet. Gymnasts competed on March 19 and 20, with several locals earning medals.
Steven Chaplin took home gold on the floor and vault, and also picked up an all-around bronze in the National Senior division.
In the National Junior division, Cohen Kiers won gold on the pommel horse, and bronze medals on the floor and the horizontal bars.
In the same division, Dawson Friesen earned silver on the pommel horse, the horizontal bar and all-around, and bronze on the vault and parallel bars.
Kyle Machibroda picked up gold on the parallel bars and horizontal bars, silver for all-around and bronze medals on the floor,pommel horse and rings in the National Novice open division. Brendan Ansell earned a bronze on the horizontal bars.
Michael Frew won gold on vault and horizontal bar and bronze on rings in the Elite 4 division, while Ethan Ikeda cleaned up in the Elite 3 division, winning gold medals in all-around, pommel horse, rings and parallel bars and bronze on floor and vault.
Jeremy Filiatrault dominated in the Level 4 group, grabbing gold medals on the floor, vault and all-around, silvers on parallel bars and horizontal bars, and bronze on the pommel horse.
Trent Johnson won gold on the horizontal bars, silver on the rings, and bronze on the vault and all-around, while Logan Isfeld picked up a gold on the rings and a silver on the pommel horse.
Also winning medals were: Alec Ikeda (gold all-around, Level 1), AJ Clark (gold all-around, Level 1), Logan Kang-Vinnish (gold all-around, Level 1), Levi Vanderwal (silver all-around, Level 1) and Hayden Isfeld (bronze on floor, Level 3).
