Two of Port Alberni’s rep hockey teams travelled to the Tier 3 provincial championships this year.
The Alberni Valley Midget Rep Bulldogs made it all the way to the finals in Terrace, although they eventually fell to the tournament’s host team.
Alberni was dominant throughout the first three games of the tournament, taking 9-1 wins against Dawson Creek and Trail, and a 5-1 win against Squamish. Their first loss came against Kitimat, in a frustratingly close 3-2 game where they started out with the lead. They still managed to grab a place in the semi-finals, where they won their first game against Cranbrook 5-1.
The Bulldogs faced the Terrace Kermodes in the championship final. The Kermodes jumped ahead to a 2-0 lead in the first period, and the Bulldogs were unable to edge out the Terrace team on home ice, despite playing a close game. They eventually fell 4-3.
The Peewee Rep Bulldogs also made it to the provincial championships in Dawson Creek this year.
They won their first two games handily, with an 8-1 win over Whitehorse and a 9-0 shutout against Fort St. John.
But they lost 5-3 against Mission and 10-1 against the undefeated host team of Dawson Creek, and were unable to make it to the semi-finals.
