Two lakecity powerlifters were gold medalists Saturday, March 18 in Portland, OR. during a World Association of Benchers and Deadlifters meet.

Bobbie-Jo Macnair and Blair Fischer both claimed gold in benchpress and deadlift in their respective classes.

Macnair competed in the junior women’s 148-pound and under division, benchpressing 144 pounds and deadlifting 330 pounds.

Fischer, meanwhile, lifted in the masters 54-60, 308 pounds and under class benchpressing 435 pounds and deadlifting 628 pounds.

Fischer began coaching Macnair in the summer last year, and the pair train together three days a week, along with doing their own personal training on the side.

“Blair suggested this would be a good one to go to,” Macnair said. “Before I met Blair and started training I’d never been to one.”

The pair plan on attending another meet closer to home in May in Prince George.

“Blair has all the equipment in his garage so we just train out of there,” Macnair said. “[I’m] really enjoying it.”
