Once again the ski season at Red Mountain Resort is winding down and to say a proper farewell to snow and snow bunnies alike, Red hosted the Slush Cup on Saturday, this time with the added twist of two pools.
About 40 people participated in this year’s event, whether on skis or snowboard, and were tasked with trying to clear both pools while demonstrating some awesome moves, wearing a great costume and wowing the crowd.
“This is our first year with the two pools, so we just wanted to step it up a little bit, see what we could do, so we branched out with the two pools to add some more excitement and we’re pretty happy with the results,” said Nicole Briggs, marketing and events manager for Red.
Matt Szczepanski placed first in the skiers category in the event and was one of few competitors to make it across both pools still standing. It was his first year participating in the Slush Cup.
“It was getting a little chilly up there, but then when they called me I just had to unbutton and just go big,” he said.
Winners for the event were as follows:
Skiers
First: Matt Szczepanski, Mississauga, Ont.
Second: Robbie, Rossland
Third: Erik Miller, Whitehorse, Yukon
Snowboarders
First: Eric Miller
Second: Brenden, Kelowna
Tied for third: Jordan Lutes, Portland, Ore. and Andrew, Ottawa, Ont.
