Two wins for Devils

Junior B hockey team defeats Mission, Ridge Meadows

The North Delta Devils did the expected last week, taking four points from a pair of Pacific International Junior Hockey League doormats.

North Delta defeated the Mission Ice Breakers 7-3 on the road Thursday night, then edged the Ridge Meadows Flames 3-2 on home ice Saturday night at the Sungod Arena.

The Flames and Mission have a combined total of just 11 wins this season, four of which came in head-to-head games.

Ridge Meadows took a pair of one-goal leads Saturday night, but powerplay goals from Stephen Campbell and Jacob Wensley tied the game. Julius Ho netted the winner with just 70 seconds to play. Campbell collected a pair of assists to lead all scorers with three points.

Special teams were the difference, as North Delta went two-for-seven on the powerplay, and killed off all five shorthanded situations.

Devils netminder Harry Fredeman got the win, stopping 26 of 28 Flames shot, while North Delta fired 38 pucks at the Ridge Meadows goal.

The Devils broke open a 2-2 tie after one period with three unanswered goals in the second.

Tyler Hobbs, Stefan Burzan, Robert Lacis on the powerplay, affiliate player Julian Feljo, Campbell, Colin Catchpole and Eben Norman were the goal scorers. Matthew Tilton earned three assists.

Now at 20-10-4 (won-loss-overtime loss) on the season, the Devils are five points back of the second place Delta Ice Hawks in the Tom Shaw Conference.

They are in Ladner tonight (Tuesday) to face the Ice Hawks, then host the Ice Breakers next Saturay at 6:45 p.m. in the Sungod Arena.
