The Trinity Western Spartans kept it close for the three quarters but the fourth-ranked UBC Thunderbirds were able to pull away and win 104-75 in Canada West men’s basketball action.
The T-Birds led from start to finish on Thursday (Nov. 17) night at War Memorial Gymnasium.
Trinity Western used an 8-0 run in the third to cut the lead to seven points, but that was as close as they would get.
The Spartans were shooting 56 per cent through the game’s first three quarters, but went cold in the fourth, hitting just three of their 15 field goal attempts as they were outscored 29-13 over the game’s final 10 minutes.
Kyle Coston led the Spartans with 19 points, despite foul trouble for much of the second half.
Tristan Smith chipped in with 15 points and six assists while Calvin Westbrook and Sean Peter each had 14 points.
The loss dropped Trinity Western to 2-3 on the season while UBC improved to 3-0.
Former Brookswood Bobcats standout Graham Bath chipped in with 10 points for the Thunderbirds.
