TWU players add heat to national volleyball team

The Langley university students were part of Team Canada in the Czech Republic.

A trio of Trinity Western Spartans players helped Team Canada to an eighth-place finish at the in world championship volleyball.

Eric Loeppky, Jesse Elser, and Derek Epp all played for the maple leaf at the Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) U21 World Championships in Brno, Czech Republic.

In pool play, Canada had two wins in three games, beating the Czech Republic and Morocco before losing to eventual champion Poland.

They dropped a pair of five-setters in the fifth to eighth place classification round, to China in the fifth-place semi-final and then to Argentina in the battle for seventh.

Loeppky finished ninth in tournament scoring with 118 points to his credit, and Elser, who will become an official TWU student this fall, had 33 points.
