UBC rallies back to defeat Trinity Western for Canada West gold medal

A runner-up finish at the Canada West championships has earned the Trinity Western Spartans the second seed at the national championships.The Spartans women’s volleyball fell 3-2 (25-22,21-25,18-25,25-21,17-15) to the UBC Thunderbirds on Saturday at War Memorial Gymnasium.Trinity Western was up 2-1 and leading in both the fourth and fifth sets before UBC rallied.Kara Jansen Van Doorn led the way with 16 kills, while Nicole Bazin led an impressive blocking effort, picking up seven block assists on the Spartans’ 11 team blocks.The Spartans won their Canada West semifinal match 3-1 (25-16,25-19,18-25,25-12) on Friday night.Jansen Van Doorn had another 21 kills, while Alicia Perrin, who was named Canada West rookie of the year on Thursday, finished with six kills and three blocks.
