The chilly SASCU Indoor arena hosted 16 teams in four divisions this past weekend in the fifth-annual Shuswap FC Girls and Boys U12 and U13 pre-holiday season tournament.

The Shuswap FC U12 Boys played some great soccer, but brief lapses proved costly in a 3-1 loss and a pair of 3-2 losses to strong teams from Penticton, Kelowna and tournament division-champion Kamloops.

The Shuswap boys fought back from a 2-0 deficit to tie it up before giving up a late winner to Kamloops.

The U13 Boys started the tournament with a 4-1 loss against the Kamloops Whitecaps Academy team. Their second game of the day saw them face the eventual champions, Penticton. The boys wound up on the short end of a 2-1 decision.

The U13 boys saved their best game of the day for last, winning 1-0 over a strong Vernon United team.

The Shuswap FC U13 girls won 3-2 against Penticton in their first game of the weekend.

In the girls’ second game, against Kelowna, they fell behind again and couldn’t break down the Kelowna defence, resulting in a 1-0 loss.

In the girls’ final game of the day they faced Vernon United.  The game ended in a 2-2 tie after a late equalizer from  Zoe St. Amand.

The Shuswap U12 girls opened up Sunday play with a dominant performance against Vernon, winning 4-0. The girls continued their strong play in a 4-1 victory over Penticton in their second game.

In the final game in the U12 division, the Shuswap FC girls faced Kamloops, resulting in a 3-1 gold medal win.
