The Williams Lake U13 Storm girls soccer team finished fifth place in the provincial playdowns July 7-10 in Penticton despite only losing one game.
The girls started the tournament with a disappointing 1-1 tie to SurDel from Surrey after outplaying them the entire game.
Jordan Burtini tipped in a Pyper Alexander corner kick to score the Williams Lake goal and the team dominated but gave up a goal late to earn the tie.
In game two Williams Lake played Prince George and totally commanded the match from beginning to end but could only get the ball in the net one time on a goal by Jaded-Rae Meldrum as she streaked down the sideline.
With one win and one tie, Williams Lake had to beat a strong Kelowna United team in order to advance to the gold medal game.
Once again the girls played very well but couldn’t get the ball in the net and lost a close one, 2-0.
With one win, one loss, and one tie they had the same record as the SurDel team but due to goal differential ended up finishing below them after the round robin portion leaving them in the battle for fifth and sixth place.
Williams Lake faced another strong Kelowna team in their final game and outplayed them most of the game.
Brooke Levens beat three Kelowna defenders to score, but once again the Storm gave up a late goal to Kelowna to force penalty shots in overtime.
Brityn Hinsche, Brette Kerley and Pyper Alexander all scored their shots and Hinsche was brilliant in goal stopping the first three Kelowna shooters for the shoot out win.
The next tournament for the girls will be in Chilliwack in late August.
