A Kelowna United FC team is busy preparing for the trip of a lifetime.
During spring break, the United U14 boys’ squad will head to Barcelona, Spain for 10 days.
United will have six training sessions and will play three friendlies at a very high level of competition.
Also on the agenda is a private tour at Camp Nuo Stadium, a bike trip, and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see Barcelona FC and Manchester City play in the UEFA Champions League.
United undertook many fund-raising initiatives over the last seven months to help cover expenses for the trip to Spain.
Kelowna United FC, COYSA, ScotiaMcleod, Coast Wholesalers, Kaloya Contracting and Big Kahuna all provided important sponsorship to the U14 boys.
The United team has been training hard all winter under the dome at the Mission sports fields.
They recently played in the Family Day Weekend Tournament in Salmon Arm where the Kelowna boys posted a respectable 2-1 record.
Kelowna’s only loss came against a group of older players, the Penticton Pinnacles FC U14/U15 team.
The U14 United boys are: David Ley, Gavin Sherman, Coleton Smith, Chris VanDenHeuvel, Harrison Bortolon, Phillip Michl, Joseph Parsons-Wright, Cameron Wilson, Braeden Cangiano, Karson Andrew, Harjun Gosal, Tanner Peters, Riley Neal, Gavin Edall, Jonah Donahue, Jagger Thomas, Cameron Sorensen and Reid Herron.
