Fifty-two runs were scored by the U14 100 Mile ‘N Hour fastball team in the Clearwater fastball tournament on May 28-29.

The team took second place in an incredible weekend and pulled off its best performance of the season so far.

The field was wet from rain on May 28, but that didn’t turn down the intensity in the first game against Merritt. The 100 Mile boys defeated Merritt in only four innings with a score of 16-1.

The 100 Mile ‘N Hour MVP was Virgil Kennedy.

The second game against Clearwater brought on even more rain. (The two teams had a close game in the Kamloops tournament on May 7 with Clearwater coming out on top 8-7.)

100 Mile put up a good fight, but the muddy field proved to be an obstacle as Clearwater won 12-4. The 100 Mile ‘N Hour MVP was Trey Wandler.

However, the 100 Mile players were not discouraged and brought out their best Sunday morning, beating Merritt 20-5 with the MVP nod going to Danika Burwell.

The victory earned the 100 Mile squad a berth in the finals game against Clearwater. Each inning was a nail biter as the two teams were neck-and-neck all the way. 100 Mile notched five runs in the first and third inning, and Quincy Archie smashed a long double to center field to drive in a run.

The infielders also pulled a great double play in the fourth inning preventing Clearwater from scoring.

Unfortunately, Clearwater was able to pull ahead in the final inning and earned a 13-12 victory. No MVP awards were given.

Head coach Cale Tessaro says he is proud of his team and the progress it has made since Kamloops.

The team played great. They all got in there and got dirty. Kamloops was our first set of games and we’ve had a couple of practices since then to solidify our positioning and improve the batting lineup.”

The U14 100 Mile ‘N Hour fastball will be competing in a tournament in Surrey on June 11-12.
