The Quesnel girls under-15 soccer team placed fourth in the Provincial B Cup in Kamloops on July 5-8.

They won games against Prince George as well as the Kootenays before losing to eventual cup winner Shuswap by a score of 3-2 in the round robin.

While they lost the bronze medal game to Kamloops, the end result was still a very positive one for the squad after finishing eighth out of eight teams last year.

“I was very happy with the outcome,” says coach Jim Nicholas.

“More importantly, I was happy with the overall quality of soccer played.”

In order to gather enough players to make a team, they had to draw from a younger pool, meaning more than half the Quesnel girls were playing against older competition.

It bodes well for the team’s chances next year, where they will try to further improve on the gains they were able to make and hopefully snatch a medal – maybe even a gold.

To wrap up the season, 10 of the girls will represent the Cariboo North East team at this weekend’s B.C. Summer Games in Cowichan.
