The U16 100 Mile ‘N Hour fastball team secured its first victory in men’s league against Exeter Sporting Goods on June 2.

Coach Reg Hooper was very pleased with his players for achieving this feat.

The boys are hitting the ball really well and all their hard work is paying off. Hopefully next year, we will be able to have both a U16 and a U19 team in the mens league.”

100 Mile didn’t hold anything back in the first inning and scored four runs. Warren McNabb was a prime contributor with a triple and a runner batted in (RBI).

The U16 players were as much about defence as they were about offence, as Exeter was only able to score two runs by the top of the third.

100 Mile pitcher Trevor McMahon was chucking fire balls as he racked up eight strikeouts by the end of the night.

However, the pace changed in the bottom of the third as Exeter pitcher Brandon Moore was replaced by Connor Edle. After that, 100 Mile didn’t score another run for the rest of the game.

In the three remaining innings, Edle threw five strikeouts. Exeter defence was so good, it was only in the fifth inning that the U16s were able to get more than three players up to bat.

Exeter came closer and closer with each inning to tying the score. Dane MacDonald smacked a double and a triple along with an RBI, while Chad Paterson achieved two RBIs.

With two more runs scored in the top of the sixth, Exeter only needed one more run to tie the game.

Thanks to quick moves by third basemen Brayden Glen, 100 Mile was able to catch a runner out at first to prevent a tying run from coming in.

Another throw in to first by second baseman Mitchell Hooper, and a strikeout from McMahon ended the game with a 7-6 victory for 100 Mile.

The team has since won three more 100 Mile men’s league games and is looking forward to heading to Kamloops to compete against the Thompson Okanagan U16 Summer Games team on June 19.
