The University of the Fraser Valley athletic department is accepting nominations for its 2018 Cascades Hall of Fame class.
The inaugural group of Cascades Hall of Famers – comprised of builders Jane Antil and Pat Lee, athletes Tracy MacLeod and Carolyne Lucy, and the 1987-88 men’s basketball team – were officially inducted on Jan. 6 of 2017.
The second annual induction ceremony is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, in conjunction with home basketball games against the Trinity Western Spartans and UFV Alumni Night festivities. Hall of Fame nominations will be accepted until Sept. 30.
Information on the Cascades Hall of Fame, including nomination forms, criteria and past inductee bios, can be found at ufvcascades.ca/hall-of-fame.
In other Cascades news, the University of the Fraser Valley baseball team is looking for billet families for the 2017-18 season.
The Canadian Colleges Baseball Conference season runs from September through mid-May. Players pay their billet families $600 per month and the expectation is they will receive lodging and three meals per day.
This past season marked the return of baseball to the university, and the team advanced to the CCBC finals falling to the seven-time defending champion Prairie Baseball Academy Dawgs out of Lethbridge.
For more information on billets, email Mel Melenchuk at billets@theyardbaseball.ca.
The UFV Abbotsford International Airport campus will also kick off Abbotsford Airshow Week with the Community Challenge Plane Pull on Tuesday.
Teams of up to 15 people will be competing in either the fun or fierce challenger divisions.
Team registration fees will benefit the University of the Fraser Valley and the UFV student awards.
It all gets underway at 11 a.m. at the UFV campus at YXX.
