The Vernon United boys U12 Team #1 earned two Rep soccer wins over Kamloops teams last weekend.
Keeper Kevin Morgan recorded two more shutouts, getting great help from a strong and determined back line.
Vernon won their opener 6-0 with Isaiah Ondrik and Jack Cotter tallying in a tight first half. United added four more (James Meeks, Ondrik, Man of the Match Saajan Klair and Max Chirkoff) in the final 35 minutes.
Game 2 was equally tight in a goal-less opening half before Vernon’s relentless attack yielded a beautiful passing play finished off by Man of the Match Cotter.
Cotter and roadrunner Ben Imrich added goals to seal a 3-0 victory. Josh Mckeown and Nate Paskiewich both offered season-best outings, and Aiden Skinner was a tackling beast on the back line alongside the always unflappable Chirkoff.
Vernon U12 #2 boys dropped two close games to Kelowna Red and White by 2-0 counts.
The Vernon boys battled hard in a scoreless first half in Game 1.
Gavin Medema, Luc Jones and Dawson Martian put in exceptional efforts and Keegan Carmichael was Man of The Match as he ran miles in central midfield.
In the second game, the boys came out strong with several chances but failed to capitalize.
Caught on a counter attack, Vernon
went down 1-0 and held that deficit to the half. Several injuries in the second half and tired legs caught up to Vernon and they down 2-0.
The lads battled on and stellar efforts by Liam Reid, Kobe Grant and Liam Glennon saved waves of Kelowna attacks. Logan Quibel was once again spectacular in net to keep the game closer than the scoreline showed and was Man of The Match.
Both teams wrap up the season Sunday with games in Kamloops.
