Parksville resident Adam Fras is currently undertaking a 500-kilometre bike ride to raise funds for the Vancouver Island Workability Program.
Fras, who is a Workability volunteer, started his ride in Port Hardy on Thursday, Sept. 13 and will pedal all the way to Victoria. He reported to The News that he had a successful bike ride from Port Hardy to Woss and that theweather held up.
Fras will be co-ordinating a bike run at the Beach Hut in Qualicum Beach at noon on Saturday and ride to Serious Cafee in Parksville. Anyone wishing to take part are free to join.
There will be a number of stationary bikes in the Serious Cafe Parking lot as well.
Anyone interested can gather pledges and join the local bike run and/or ride the stationary bikes and help raise funds for the Workability Program which is a diversified placement program focused on pre-vocational activity for people with mental illness, developmental and social barriers.

The Workability Program has developed a business model and establish an employer partnership with Northwest Bay Nursery to provide work related activity for individuals who would experience extreme barriers to work in the general job market. It has also opened two more social enterprises, The Pie Factory and 2nd Chance Thrift Store. Its vision is to help individuals to develop a strong sense of community, confidence and feelings of hope.
