Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met today with American President Donald Trump, and similarly, the Langley-based Giants came face-to-face with the Americans this afternoon.

Tri-City Americans were in Langley today to take on the Vancouver G-Men at the Langley Events Centre (LEC), losing 5-3.

This games comes as a followup to a defeat on home ice Saturday night, where – for the second time in two days – the Kelowna shut out the Giants.

The Vancouver Giants lost 6-0 to the Rockets on Friday evening in Kelowna, then hoped to seek revenge on home ice Saturday. But the Rockets again blanked the G-Men at LEC, again shutting them out 5-0.

Vancouver, B.C. – The Kelowna Rockets blanked the Vancouver Giants for a second consecutive night, winning 5-0 at the Langley Events Centre on Saturday evening.

In Saturday night’s game, Calvin Thurkauf tipped a Cal Foote point shot past Giants goaltender David Tendeck on a first period power play to put the Rockets on the board.

James Hilsendager scored later in the stanza on a wrist shot from the slot.

Erik Gardiner cashed in on a man advantage in the second period, scoring on the rebound of his brother Reid’s shot. Lucas Johansen beat Tendeck on a point shot just 11 seconds later, and Johansen set up Kole Lind for his 26th goal of the season before the end of the middle frame.

Kelowna out shot Vancouver 38-19. The Giants failed to score on three power play opportunities.

It was similar to Friday’s game in Kelowna, where goaltender Ryan Kubic made 50 saves but it wasn’t enough to compete.

Erik Gardiner opened the scoring before the game was six minutes old, tipping a Cal Foote point shot past Kubic on a man advantage. Shortly thereafter, Foote tallied his first of the night on another power play when fired a hard shot into the top corner from the right circle.

Foote made it 3-0 early in the second period, bagging another power play goal on a wrister from the slot. Leif Mattson scored on a breakaway with 15 seconds left in the period.

Foote completed his hat-trick at 2:36 of the final frame, scoring on another clean shot from the right wing. Mattson added another goal on a deflection.

Brodan Salmond made 22 saves for the shutout in the Kelowna crease. The Rockets went 3-for-7 on the power play while the Giants were 0-for-6.

During the Family Day game, the Vancouver Giants scored goals from Jordan Borstmayer, Brendan Semchuk, and Owen Hardy.

Morgan Geekie put the Americans in front with a power play goal at 4:18 on the first period after a nice setup by Jordan Topping. Borstmayer equalized for Vancouver just after the midway mark of the frame when he scored on a one-timer from the slot.

Dylan Coghlan beat Giants goaltender Kubic on a shot from the point with under two minutes to go in the stanza, but Semchuk hammered a slap shot past Tri-City goalie Rylan Parenteau on a man advantage before the end of the period to tie the game again.

The Americans got a pair of goals in the final five minutes of the second period, scored by Riley Sawchuk and Parker AuCoin, to take a 4-2 lead into the second intermission.

Hardy pulled Vancouver back to within one goal early in the third period, scoring at the side of the net after Taden Rattie forced a turnover and set him up. Jordan Topping scored later in the final frame for Tri-City.

The Americans out shot the Giants 40-21. Vancouver went 1-for-3 on the power play.

The Giants’ next game is set for Friday, Feb, 17, against the Kamloops Blazers at the Langley Events Centre. The puck will drop at 7:30 p.m. For tickets, click here or call 604-444-2687.
