Uplands Elementary School students teamed up to complete a cumulative 43-kilometre run on May 29.
The school held its third annual marathon as part of its daily physical activity. Uplands Elementary School students ran three times a week and tracked their performances to complete an actual marathon.
“What makes this particular day special, Peach City Runners set up a finish line for us with a big banner and an actual timing clock,” said Uplands Elementary principal Lisa Edwards.
Before the run an assembly was held with guest speakers from the Penticton Pikes swim club. They spoke about being fit for life and the importance of being active. As Edwards said, it gets the students motivated before heading out on the run. They also run through the finishers chute and experience what that feels like.
The students wore red T-shirts purchased by several local businesses, which are splashed on the back.
“It’s incredible for school spirit. Gives the kids something to work for,” said Edwards. “The shirts are worn continually throughout the remainder of the year and years to come.”
