Upper Riptide camp a smashing success

Roughly 160 North Island youth soccer players attended the one-day camp

Roughly 160 youth soccer players from all over the North Island attended the Marine Harvest Riptide camp on Saturday, April 8 in Port Hardy, which turned out to be another smashing success story for the soccer organization.

The one day soccer camp ranged in ages from four-years-old to 18. This was the second annual event and the number of participants continues to grow each year.

The Riptide coaches who attended the soccer camp were Stephen Hall, Sean Arbour, Taylor Arbour, Niko Cristante, Mateo, Danielle Robertson, Max Powsey and Liam Creek.

According to the Upper Island Riptide’s social media, “there is a tremendous amount of talent coming out of the North Island. The Riptide organization simply cannot wait until the third annual, pre-camp, five-pin bowling tournament next year.”

The Riptide is the Upper Vancouver Island ‘North’ regional franchise of the Vancouver Island Premier League (VIPL). The franchise is comprised of 8 teams – a boys and a girls team each in the U14, U15, U16 and U17-18 age divisions. The Riptide franchise is administered by a Steering Committee of representatives from Comox Valley, Campbell River, and Powell River.
