Oak Bay basketball fans will want to head to the University of Victoria tonight (Friday, Nov. 25), when the men’s and women’s basketball teams host UBC for the ninth annual Shoot for the Cure event, raising money for Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. High school basketball play tips off this week with the Div. 2 senior boys’ league taking Glenlyon Norfolk School to Pacific Christian Tuesday, Nov. 29. The game starts at 7:30 p.m.
In Island premier rugby, the Castaways Wanderers visit James Bay AA this Saturday, Nov. 26, for a 2:30 p.m. kick-off. UVic’s premier Vikes head to the Westshore for a 2:30 p.m. tilt Nov. 26.
In Div. 1 play, the UVic Norsemen take on the Valhallians at 12:45 p.m. Saturday at Juan de Fuca fields while the Div. 1 Castaways are in James Bay for 12:45 p.m.
Windsor Park welcomes boys’ U18 rugby playoffs Sunday, Nov. 27. Come cheer on the local boys when they kick-off against Abbotsford at 2:30 p.m.
Turning to Oak Bay soccer, on Sunday, Nov. 27 the Bays United Div. 1 men’s soccer squad hosts the Comox Valley United at 2 p.m. at the Oak Bay High turf. They return to play on Friday, Dec. 2 to host Lakehill at 8 p.m., also at Oak Bay High School.
Women’s premier league soccer returns this week with the Castaways Highlanders FC playing Prospect Lake Friday, Nov. 25, with a 6 p.m. start at Layritz. The Div. 1 Castaways play Saturday, Nov. 26, hosting Juan de Fuca United at 6 p.m. at PISE while the Div. 1 Bays United welcomes Gorge FC to the Oak Bay High turf Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
In Midget Tier 1 hockey, the Saanich Braves, which includes Oak Bay players, come off a 3-2 win over the Juan de Fuca Grizzlies to host Port Alberni Saturday at Pearkes arena. Face-off is at 4 p.m.
