The V.I. Raiders had several things go wrong and still only lost by one score.
Nanaimo’s B.C. Football conference team lost to its rivals, the Westshore Rebels, by a 19-14 score on Saturday at Caledonia Park.
Backup quarterback Cole McGarvey was injured and replaced at QB by Keagen Henderson, and the Raiders struggled in the passing game all day, going 6-for 26 with three interceptions and no TDs.
V.I.’s majors were scored on the ground, with Andre Goulbourne and Henderson rushing for TDs.
Goulbourne finished with 126 rush yards and receiver North Rainey had five of his team’s catches for 152 yards.
Defensively, Nathan Cayouette led the Raiders with seven solo tackles and a fumble recovery. Andre Gordon had an interception and Gevhahn McNally-Hardisty forced a fumble and made four tackles.. Zach Taylor, Dillan Neufeld and Doug Thornton had sacks.
GAME ON … The Raiders take on the Okanagan Sun in Kelowna on Sunday, Oct. 6. After the bye week, the Raiders will finish the regular season at home Oct. 19 against the Valley Huskers at 1 p.m. at Caledonia Park.
