Valliere fourth at Canadian championship

Mark Valliere of Courtenay finished fourth at the Canadian Junior Boys Championships, held July 31 to Aug. 3 at the Osprey Ridge Golf Club in Bridgewater, N.S.

The Crown Isle golfer had the lowest score for the last two rounds of 68-68 and was the only player to shoot in the 60s both days. Valliere shot opening rounds of 76-74 to finish at two-over 286, just three shots back of winner Adam Svensson (75-69-75-64=283) of Surrey, B.C.

Three of the top five finishers at the tourney were from B.C.

Logan Yanick of Courtenay finished in a four-way tie for 43rd with rounds of 75-77-73-74 for a 15-over 299. That gave him 14th place in the Juvenile Boys side of the tourney.

Valliere is in Ontario for the Aug. 7-10 Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship, which he qualified for by finishing 14th at the B.C. Men’s Amateur Championship in July.

Meanwhile, Emma Rigsby of Courtenay withdrew from the Canadian Junior Girls Championship at River Spirit Golf Club in Calgary, Alta. last weekend. Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, ON. won that event with a 13-under 275.

Details of both the boys and girls national junior championships are at golfcanada.ca.
