SCOTT CONWAY of the Penticton Vees has committed to the Providence College Friars for next fall.

Scott Conway has made his decision on his hockey playing future.

Conway announced on Twitter that he will be joining the Providence College Friars for the 2016-17 season.

Conway has been tearing up the BCHL this season as he sits second in the league scoring with 77 points in 36 games. The 20-year-old is also second in goals with 37, but first in points per-game (2.14) and game-winning goals (10), and fourth in power-play goals (12).  Twice Conway has been named the BCHL Player of the Week and is strong contender for another honour this week, after he had back-to-back hat-tricks and nine points, in two wins against Vernon and Salmon Arm. Conway also has 20-game home point streak that started on Sep.16, the Vees home opener.

Prior to joining Penticton, Conway, who’s originally from Basingstoke, England, played at Penn State University last year, where was named to the Big Ten All-Rookie team, after putting up 26 points in 34 games. He also won a USHL Clark Cup Championship in 2014 with the Indiana Ice. Conway said Providence stood out for all the right reasons.

“It was a difficult process choosing on where I was going to play after this year but Providence just felt like the right fit,” said Conway in a team statement. “They’ve got a great program under head coach Nate Leaman, who’s established a winning tradition there, and they play in one of the best hockey conferences (Hockey East).”

Prior to making his decision, Conway said he was also considering Denver University and Maine.

The Friars are the defending NCAA Division l men’s ice hockey champions, as they beat Boston University in last year’s championship. The Friars are a founding member of the Hockey East Conference and in their program’s history they’ve played in the NCAA Tournament 11 times and have made four appearances at the Frozen Four. Providence College was established in 1914 and is located in Providence, Rhode Island.

With Conway’s commitment, the Vees now have 11 players on their roster with an NCAA Division l scholarship.
