Vees dethrone Powell River Kings in double-overtime thriller

Two goals in the final 41 seconds sends Penticton into sudden-death showdown Saturday night at the South Okanagan Events Centre

Two goals in the final minute of regulation time set up the the Penticton Vees for a 4-3 double-overtime win Saturday night over the visiting Powell River Kings.

As the teams jousted with three skaters a side, Captain Brad McClure scored his second of the night with just over a minute left in the second overtime period to earn his team two points.

The clubs exchanged goals through the first two periods, before the Kings put away two goals early in the third to go ahead 3-1.

But the Vees struck twice in the final 41 seconds, including Paul Stoykewych’s first of the season with just three seconds left on the clock, to send the game to overtime.

The Vees (9-3-0-0) also dumped the visiting Prince George Spruce Kings 2-0 on Friday, and are back in action Wednesday when they host the Merritt Centennials (7-7-0-0).
