Vees look to top Mustangs again

Fresh of a 5-3 win over the Vernon Mustangs, the Penticton peewee Vees visit Vernon

The Penticton Sherwood Trophy peewee Tier 2 Vees beat the Vernon Mustangs 5-3 in Okanagan Mainline Amateur Hockey Association play on Dec.13. The win moved Penticton into first place with a 10-1-0 record. It’s the first time this season the Vees were able to defeat the Mustangs, now 8-1-0.

The Mustangs scored two goals in the opening period, but the Vees answered back with a goal by defenceman Rickson Kruger, assisted by Marty Aantjes and Brennan Nelson.

The Vees then struck first in the second to tie the game at two on a goal by Nelson, set up by Ben Lefranc. Before the first half of the game ended, the Mustangs went up 3-2.

Nelson was at it again for the Vees tying the game near the end of the second period. The Vees then scored two unanswered goals in the third by Levi Carter and Nelson, who completed the hat-trick thanks to Chris Schulting and Kai Espenhain.

The Vees received great goaltending by Tanner Johnson. The Vees were relentless and never gave up, while maintaining their intensity.

The Vees and Mustangs meet again in Vernon on Dec. 19 for the final time.
