The Penticton Vees earned their eighth straight win with a 3-2 victory over the Victoria Grizzlies Sunday afternoon.
The Vees swept their three-game road trip that started in Chilliwack, then took them to Cowichan Valley, where they picked up a 5-1 win, and concluded in Victoria.
Brett Beauvais scored the winning goal against the Grizzlies on the power play midway through the third. The Vees also tied the game using the man-advantage when Steen Cooper beat former Vees goalie Nic Renyard. Brad McClure opened the scoring 3:19 into the game, while Gerry Fitzgerald and Chris Albertini scored for the Grizzlies.
The Vees went two-for-seven on the power play, while the Grizzlies were one-for-six. Olivier Mantha made 21 saves for the win, while Renyard turned aside 22.
In Cowichan Valley, Cooper scored against his hometown team, but it was Max Coatta who buried the winner.
Ben Dalpe opened the scoring at 9:33 of the first period and Coatta’s goal came just over a minute later. Also scoring for the Vees was captain Brad McClure and Cam Amantea.
The Vees went two-for-three on the power play, while their penalty killing group was perfect shutting down the Capitals on all four of their opportunities.
The Vees have taken over first overall in the BCHL with a record of 24-7-1-3. They have a seven-point lead on the Vernon Vipers in the Interior Division. They will now get ready for a home-and-home series before embarking on their Christmas break.
