Velocity clip Flyers for title

The Vernon Scotiabank Velocity claimed the Bantam Super Hockey League pennant with an 8-2 win over the Interior Savings Flyers Monday at Pat Duke Memorial Arena.

An own-goal had the Velocity reeling early, but the team regrouped to take a 4-2 lead at the break, and took over in the second half.

Velocity offence came from Jeremy Pogue (from Brandon Magnus and Kyle Dennis), Seth Blundell (from Isaiah Wenger), Marcus Finn (from Marshall Box), Blundell (from Wenger), Box (from Austin Picard), Finn (from Blundell), Jeremy Pogue (from Cole Bradley) and Blundell (from Wenger).

Jacob Holland, who shares netminding duties with Sylvain Lucet, made 43 saves for the win.

The Velocity grounded the Lumby Stars 4-3 in round-robin play Friday night at Civic Arena, with Wenger opening the scoring from Box and Blundell 12:32 into the first period.

Dennis scored in the second frame, and Blundell, from Pogue and Magnus, and Bradley, from Wenger, completed the attack in the third.

Having already clinched first in the round-robin, the Velocity exploded for six third-period goals to outgun the North Okanagan Knights 9-5 Saturday.

Velocity goals came from Jeff Hiscoe (from Box and Wenger), Finn (from Blundell), Box (from Finn), Blundell (from Hiscoe), Parker Wadsworth (from Pogue and Dennis), Finn (from Blundell), Wadsworth (from Pogue), Blundell, and Pogue (from Dennis).

Facing North Okanagan in a semifinal rematch Sunday, the Velocity overcame a slow start to earn a 9-3 win.

Trailing 2-0 at the break, the Velocity dominated the second half with nine straight goals. Holland finished with 38 saves. Velocity offence came from Box (from Wenger and Blundell), Blundell (from Box), Hiscoe (from Blundell and Dennis), Finn (from Dennis), Dennis (from Pogue and Finn), Hiscoe (from Box), Blundell (from Wenger and Finn), Magnus (from Finn), and Box (from Wenger).
