Venom best in B.C.

Vernon Venom won the Under 14 Girls Volleyball B.C. club championships last weekend in Abbotsford.

After an up and down season, the Vernon Under 14 Venom girls played their best volleyball when it mattered most, winning the Volleyball B.C. club championships last weekend in Abbotsford.

Led by coaches Renee Cooke and Tim Proctor, the girls entered the 10-team tournament with high hopes and finished by sweeping the Focus Adrenaline 2-0 (25-22, 25-23) in Sunday’s final at the Tradex.

The Venom brushed back the LVC Marloes of Vancouver 2-1 (21-25, 25-19, 15-13) in the semifinals after grounding the North Shore Stars 2-0 (25-14, 25-19) in the quarters.

Vernon placed second in their Division 4 Tier 1 pool after defeating the Campbell River Crush 2-0 (25-7, 25-21), icing Power West of West Vancouver 2-0 (25-4, 25-23) and falling 25-21, 26-24 to Focus Adrenaline.

Shay Peterson was voted Most Inspirational Player by her teammates, while the Venom were also one of the winners in the Banner Contest. The coaches and players gave special props to hard-working manager Cathy Scott.
