Vernon Coca Cola Vipers drop two

The Vernon Coca Cola Vipers lose opening two games of Midget Tier 2 hockey tournament in West Kelowna.

The Vernon Coca Cola Vipers were searching for their first win of a Midget Tier 2 hockey tournament Saturday in West Kelowna.

The Coke boys, coached by Michael Sherwood, lost both of their Friday tilts, bowing 7-2 to host West Kelowna, and 6-2 to Calgary.

Landon Munk and Jeremy Pogue handled Vernon’s attack against West Kelowna. Riley Swiscoski drew an assist. Munk was named Vernon’s game MVP for his all-around hustle, while Julian Darkazanli stood out defensively for the Vipers.

Conor Webb got the start, and was replaced by Billy Cawthorn.

Vernon kept it close against Calgary until the Albertans pulled away in the third period.

Swiscoski netted the Vipers’ first snipe with a rocket from just inside the blueline, assisted by Dex Elders. Pogue threaded a shot through traffic for the other tally.

Cawthorn took game MVP, and was supported defensively by Mason McClennan.

Vernon battled Semiamhoo Saturday morning.
