Vernon duo makes cut

Vernon golfers make cut Wednesday in the 110th B.C. Amateur Golf Championship at Swan-e-set Bay Resort and Country Club in Pitt Meadows.

A pair of Vernon golfers made the cut Wednesday after two rounds in the 110th B.C. Amateur Golf Championship at Swan-e-set Bay Resort and Country Club in Pitt Meadows.

Zach MacDougall shot a 76 in the second round after opening with a 79, while Bradlee Jones went 82-74 to make the top 70 and ties in the field of 156.

Vernon golfers Justin Wurz, at 80-78-158, and Brady Stead, at 82-76-160, just failed to make the cut.

Victoria’s Kevin Carrigan stretched his lead to two strokes with a 1-under 71 Wednesday. Following an opening round 67, Carrigan started his round 2 with a 3-over-par 39 before turning on the heat for his back nine. He made four birdies on the back, starting on the par 5, 535-yard 10th hole.

Sitting in a logjam at second place were Chemanius’ Dustin Yeager, North Vancouver’s Bryan Lichimo and Team Canada Development Squad member Riley Fleming of Airdie, Alta.

In fifth place and five back of Carrigan after an even-par 72 second round was Vancouver’s Doug Roxburgh. The 13-time B.C. Amateur champion carded 71-72.

Rounds of the day went to Penticton’s Cory Hilditch and Yohann Vora who both shot blistering five-under-par 67’s, trampolining them back into contention at even par.

Meanwhile, Vernon’s Chris McEachran-Law, 18, shared second place in the Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour stop Wednesday at the Harvest in Kelowna.

McEachran-Law finished at 73-76-149, tied with Kelowna’s Steven Lee, at 76-73, five strokes back of champion Lucas Gatto of Burnaby.

Bryce McLean of Armstrong, who plays out of Predator Ridge, and Alex Kreutz of Vernon shared 10th spot in the Boys 17-19 division. McLean and Kreutz both carded 82-80.

Vernon’s Austin Bosquet was fourth in the Boys 14-16 category at 74-76-150, while Matt Kreutz of Vernon tied for ninth at 80-78-158. Christian Lacasse of Vernon shot 85-79-164 for a share of 20th.

 

Vernon Morning Star
