Myles Johnson of Spallumcheen and Jesse Crowe of Canoe Creek shared sixth spot in the $13,000 Ping Golf PGA of B.C. Pro-Pro Championships at Tower Ranch in Kelowna.
The close friends carded 70-62-132 to go 12-under and collect $900. The first round Monday was a best ball, while Tuesday’s final round – hampered somewhat by a grassfire on holes 13 and 14 – was a scramble.
“We shot the second-lowest score (62) on Day 2 with 11 birdies and one bogey,” said Crowe. “Round 1 was not so good as we had two bogeys and only four birdies.”
Johnson is 13th in the PGA of B.C. Order of Merit, with $6,041 in earnings.
Lindsay Bernakavitch (Shaughnessy) and Dave Zibrik (Seymour Creek) won $2,500 with rounds of 65-61. They were two shots off the lead after an impressive 7-under par 65 in the best ball.
They continued their fine play on Tuesday, firing 10 birdies and an eagle en route to an 11-under 61 in the scramble, three shots ahead of Kevin Maxwell (Olympic View) and Bill Kelly (Glacier Greens).
Maxwell and Kelly earned $2,000. Wrapping up the top five in a three-way tie for third place were the all Kelowna G&CC team of Rob Anderson and Jamie Stevens, long-time friends David Bolton (Savage Creek) and Darryl Stubbs (Cove Links), and the Okanagan pair of Dean Claggett (Two Eagles) and Greg Machtaler (Summerland G&CC). Each third-place team earned $1,300 for its efforts.
n Chris McEachran Law of Vernon G&CC placed third at 80-74-154 in the Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Tour Dylan Reichelt Memorial at Hazelmere Golf Club in Surrey.
The tournament paid tribute to the memory of Reichelt, a MJT member who died in a car accident last November. He was the son of longtime B.C. Lions’ trainer Bill Reichelt.
Steven Hayes, 18, of Surrey won in his first-ever MJT event, firing 71-72-143. Runner-up was Steve Lee of Kelowna, 17, at 76-74-150. Dylan Reichelt’s twin brother, Jesse, tied for fourth at 75-80-155.
McEachran-Law, 18, won the boys 17-19 division Sundog Eyewear skills contest.
In the boys 14-16 category, Matt McEachran-Law, 16, finished in a three-way tie for sixth, at 81-73-154. Marcus Brown of Surrey claimed the title at 72-75-147.
