A pair of Vernon athletes topped the men’s and women’s podium at the Summerland Sprint Triathlon Sunday morning.
Racing in ideal conditions, Nathan Champness finished first overall, completing the 750-metre swim, 20-km bike and 5-km run in one hour and one minute. Erica Moser-Reschreiter ruled the women’s division with a 1:11:10. It was her third sprint win of the season.
The event featured more than 350 participants between the ages of six and 69, with one participant in the 70+ division.
Sam Lazar of Armstong finished fourth with a time of 1:05:27, while Vernon’s Baumeister brothers, Peter (1:09:43) and Matt (1:10:25), stuck close together to finish 17th and 18th respectively.
Just one week after competing in Ironman Canada, Vernon’s Laura Medcalf raced to third place in the women’s 30-39 age group with a 1:18:30. Sue Abbott finished second in the women’s 60-69 in 1:33:09.
