Vernon freestylers go big

The Silver Star Freestyle Ski Club racked up 18 podium finishes at a freestyle event last weekend at Apex Mountain Resort in Penticton.

The Silver Star Freestyle Ski Club racked up 18 podium finishes at a freestyle event last weekend at Apex Mountain Resort in Penticton.

Sponsored by Helmuts Sausage Kitchen, Monashee Powder, Kal Tire, and CIBC Wood Gundy, the local team had 37 athletes compete in a field of 170 on the first stop of the season.

In girls 12 Big Air, Courtenay MacDonald was first, while Jordan MacDonald ruled girls 8-9 and Jaxon Peters was second in boys 8-9.

Courtenay and Jordan MacDonald won their classes in Moguls, while Peters was second and Alex Sewell was first in boys 6-7.

In Slopestyle, Sewell and Jordan MacDonald topped their categories, while Courtenay MacDonald was third.

In the Timber Tour Big Air, Katie Walker won the Female 16-18 title, Connor Broderick was third in Male 16-18  and Patrick Dew placed fourth in Male 14-15.

Walker also claimed the Slopestyle title, while Ty Schultze took the Male 16-18 title ahead of Jake Ondrik.

Dew was second, while Sterling Peters placed second in Male 13 and under.
