Vernon Juniors topple Shuswap

Vernon Junior A’s outgun Shuswap Junior/Belles 7-2 in ringette play Sunday at Priest Valley Arena.

Alyssa Racine and Kendra Ostafie pocketed a pair of goals each as the Vernon Junior A’s outgunned Shuswap Junior/Belles 7-2 in ringette play Sunday at Priest Valley Arena.

Emma Carter, Alex Drury and Shelby Connors chipped in with singles, while Evan Koshure, Ava Haldane and Saige Woodliffe added assists.

Caenen Wisse recorded the win.

In Tween play Saturday, Courtney Bacon and Aly Carter each supplied two goals and three assists to lead Vernon to a 7-4 win over Kelowna.

Grace Cornell fired twice for Vernon, who got one goal from Abby Williamson and an assist from Georgia Lannon.

Kristin Ho continued her hot streak for the Vernon Flare, figuring in on each of the goals in a 5-4 Petite win over Kelowna.

Ho scored twice and assisted on two snipes by Alassa Johnson and one by Brynn Korol.

Abby Sveistrup, Miah Cohen and Jasmine Horton were stellar on the Flare’s back end.

The Vernon Ice Breakers extended their Novice undefeated streak in dominating fashion, slamming Shuswap 21-2 Saturday at PV.

Makenna Jackson and Sofie Bilodeau were on fire in the first half, each contributing three goals and three assists. Salmon Arm struggled to keep up with the Breakers’ solid two-way play.

Zion White exploded for 3+3 and game MVP Amelia Johnson was terrific on defence while contributing 3+1. Johnson recorded the highlight of the night with a double-spin move before dishing off to Jackson for a beautiful goal.

In other Novice play, the Vernon Strikers upended host Kelowna 7-3 Saturday at the Capital News Centre.

Backed by exceptional goaltending from Victoria Schultz, the Strikers got offence from Aimee Skinner (3), Lauren Cooke, Sydney Lewis, Sierra Fernley and Alecia Hughes.
