Vernon Rattlers open home Tier 3 tourney with split

Nixon Wenger Rattlers open home Pee Wee Tier 3 hockey tourney at 1-1 at Civic Arena in Vernon.

The Nixon Wenger Rattlers lost their first Pee Wee Tier 3 hockey game of the season Saturday morning, bowing 9-2 to Castlegar in their home tourney.

Zac Agar earned player of the game for his shutdown role against a talented Castlegar scoring line. Rattlers got a pair of goals from Cory Lazar, with Gavin Fleck, Lee Christiensen, and Tanner Wright providing the helpers.

The Rattlers opened the tournament Friday night with a 5-0 win over West Kelowna in a spirited game.

Tyler Sedlacek earned game MVP for his full-game shutout. Vernon offence came on unassisted goals from Kayden Beauregard, Lazar and Eric Noren. Cole Johnson had a goal and an assist, while Gavin Fleck added a helper.

In other Friday action, it was Castlegar 5-3 over Quesnel, Kelowna 17-0 over Summerland and Chilliwack 4-3 over Nelson.
