Vernon U18 teams settle for tie

Vernon Interior Savings Orange and Team #1 battling to a 3-3 draw in U18 Girls House soccer league action at Marshall Field.

It was Kal vs Kal in youth soccer Under 18 girls House league play Saturday afternoon at Marshall Field #2, with Interior Savings Orange and Team #1 battling to a 3-3 draw.

There was some spirited sister-against-sister and friend-against-friend action with Interior Savings getting the first goal from Mexican exchange student Martha Perez.

Shortly after, Team #1 equalized with a shot that just squeaked by always-smiling volunteer keeper Amanda Breitkreutz.

The teams jockeyed back and forth with stellar defending skills by all. Team #1 moved in front with an unfortunate own goal and were up 3-1 15 minutes into the second half when Summer Jespersen collapsed the lead with an amazing bomb into the back of the net.

With minutes remaining, Interior Savings midfielders parlayed some superb passing which ended up with Perez scoring the tying marker, much to head coach Charlotta McNaught’s glee.

In other Saturday U18 action, Caufield Engraving bottled up Kia Motors 5-2 at Marshall #5.

The Kia girls played the 90 minutes without any subs or complaints, going hard for their missing teammates.

Keeper Kelsey Raber made some fabulous plays to keep the Kia gang in the game. Down 4-0, the Kia girls answered back with a bullet of a shot from Janelle Cole, and got another tally from Paige Haberstock who followed her ball right into the net.

Two spectacular saves from keepers Darian Newman and Halle August kept the Subway Vanilla Ice and the Subway Silver Bullets scoreless at Marshall #3.

The Vanilla Ice received great hustle and effort from everybody, with outstanding two-way contributions coming from Ania Splawinski and Dayna Whibley.

In Subway Girls U14-15 action Saturday, the Tracker Jackers stopped the Navy Seals 4-0.

Lauren Ingbrigston scored a deuce in the Jackers’ first win against two ties, while Hana Ogasawara and Kierra Bootsma added singles.

The Jackers’ defensive core of Ashley Higginson, Taylor Gray, Carley Alexander, Courtney Blaeser and Larissa Deines were very effective in shutting down the strong offensive talent of the Navy Seals.

Karley Geefs moved up to striker from centre back and responded with two goals to help Subway White remain undefeated with a 4-0 win over Subway Red in U14-15 action.

After a scoreless first half which saw limited chances on either side, Geefs opened the scoring by beating the hard-charging keeper to a through ball from Kayli Breitkreutz.

Geefs got her second off a nice cross from a hard-working Latisha Baker, and an own goal put White up 3-0. Cherish Ayers rounded out the attack just before the final whistle, fearlessly chasing down a through ball and absorbing a collision with the Red keeper as the ball found the back of the net.

Team White got a strong defensive effort from Carlee Meausette and solid goalkeeping from Ayers, Nicole Skidmore and Katie MacGillivray, who shared the shutout.
