The Vernon Valley Wood Venom opened Harvest Cup Atom Development Hockey Tournament with a 3-1 win over the Chilliwack Bruins Friday at Priest Valley Arena.
The game featured great defensive efforts at both ends with two powerful offences going head to head. Vernon goals came from Cameron Moger, with a pair, and Coletyn Boyarski. Assists went to Tysen Fairweather (2) and Jacob Boden.
This was the Venom’s first character win were they dug deep and played like a team. Kobe Grant guarded the net with some sensational saves to keep the team moving forward.
The Venom faced the Burnaby Bulldogs and Abbotsford Hawks Saturday.
In other Harvest Cup action, Ben King was a one-man show with four goals as the Vernon H&L Glass Wolfpack drew Abbotsford 4-4 at Civic.
Trevor Kennedy drew an assist in support of netminder Cayden Hamming. Lucas Zubrod and Porter Trevelyan turned in solid two-way performances.
The Pack faced the Semiahmoo Ravens Saturday.
Tylor McMillan’s shot bounced in off a d-man with 49 seconds left as the Talon Benefits Hawks clipped the Vernon Seed Orchard Thunderhawks 6-5 in Midget Super League play Friday night at Civic Arena.
Landon Munk and Adam Fenske each scored twice for the Hawks, who trailed 2-0 after 20 minutes. Lucas Mitchell had the other Hawks’ snipe. Fenske had two helpers in support of Bryce Dyck.
Brennan Martin (2+2), Steven Goebel, Soloman Ivanoff and Aaron Kerryluke replied for the Ducks, who had Clayton Coles in net.
