The Vernon Auto Fix Vikings opened up their home Bantam Tier 3 hockey tournament with a convincing 6-3 win over Salmon Arm Friday at Civic Arena.
Conor Webb backstopped the Vikes, while game MVP Brian Ferguson led the offence with the hat trick. Other goals came from Connor Johnston, Owen Beliveau and Logan Imrich.
Beliveau, Imrich, Austin Caldwell, Kyle Sherwood, Colton Skead, Jason Shaigec, Stephane Richard and hard-hitting Carl Main, returning from injury, chipped in with assists.
Vernon kept most of the play in Salmon Arm’s end of the rink. The Vikes faced the West Kelowna Warriors Saturday morning, followed by Prince George that afternoon.
In other Tier 3 tourney play, Kamloops grounded Kelowna 4-1, Prince George and West Kelowna drew 2-2 and Revelstoke slammed Merritt 8-0.
The championship final goes today at 1p.m. at Priest Valley Arena. The semis go at 7:15 and 9:30 a.m. at Civic.
The Vernon Sladen Moore Vikings grounded Calgary Girls Hockey (CGH) 7-1 Friday night in their opener of the CGH tourney at East Calgary Twin Arena.
Jenna Fletcher and Olivia Comeau each bagged a deuce, while Heart & Hustle winner Samantha Head, Emily Clarke and Ripley Burd contributed singles in support of Bailey Berndt.
“All three lines were humming and our defence was solid and moving the puck up nicely,” said Lakers’ assistant coach Rob Bauml.
The Lakers faced the Richmond Ravens and the Edmonton Maniacs in Saturday pool play.
Landon Munk pulled the hat trick and goalie Bryce Dyck was stellar as the Talon Benefits Hawks grounded the Kelowna Leafs 7-1 Friday morning in the Winfield Midget Rec Tournament.
Left winger Luc Mitchell opened the Hawks’ offence 17 seconds in after a feed by Bryton Stead. Mitchell had Vernon’s last snipe with 7:07 left in the game, from Adam Fenske.
Sean Connors pocketed 1+2 for the Hawks, while Tylor McMillan also scored. Stead and Fenske each earned two helpers.
The Talon Benefits boys faced the Kelowna Kings and West Kelowna Raiders in Saturday round-robin play.
