Vernon Vortex tracking success

Vernon Vortex skaters continue to rack up personal bests.

The Vernon Vortex lapped up 35 personal best times while battling in short-track speed skating competition Saturday in Kamloops.

The Vortex’s Jared Eddy led the way with PBs in each of his five events, while Laura Hall and Logan Stewart each recorded four. Jonah Violini, Nathan Stewart, Declan Fitzpatrick, Nate Benn, Daniel Hall and Mattias Isobe each contributed three to the club total. Lauryn Eddy and Tadhg Boyle each had two personal best performances.

To close out the competition, there was a two-person, 10-minute relay.  The duo of Daniel Hall and Benn won the first division with an incredible 4.6km, Jonah Violini and Declan Fitzpatrick finished third at 4km with Nathan and Logan Stewart coming in third at 3.7km.

In the second division, Laura Hall and Eddy finished fourth (4.3km) and Isobe and Boyle were fifth (4.2km).

“It was a great team performance,” said Vortex head coach Mike Hall. “The improvements are coming at a rate that is setting the team up to have strong representation at the next B.C. Winter Games.”

The 2015 Games start Feb. 20, in Mission.
