The Thompson Okanagan (TOFC) Under 17/18 boys went 3-0 in the Whitecaps Spring College Showcase Tournament last weekend at Newton Athletic Park in Surrey.

TOFC opened with a 2-1 win over Surrey United, a game which also counted towards the EA Sports B.C. Soccer Premier League standings.

TOFC found themselves under pressure right from the kick-off and Surrey took an early lead, with keeper Jake Bainas (Kamloops) having no chance from close range.

Midway through the second half, TOFC got rewarded when, against the run of play, Mackenzie Rigg (Kelowna) cut inside the Surrey fullback and fired home an left-footed shot into the top corner.

Several good chances were created before Sean Czerwonka (Vernon) lashed home the winner from close range after more good work from Rigg down the right flank.

TOFC then blanked the Vancouver Fusion 1-0 with Lex Phillips (Penticton) bursting up the middle, only to be brought down early in the second half. Andrew Stevenson (Kelowna) converted the resulting spot kick.

TOFC finished with a thrilling 1-0 victory over  Coquitlam Metro Ford.

Czerwonka had a goal ruled out for offside early on, and TOFC created several other good chances before Man of the Match Robin Whittaker (Kelowna) gave them the lead, using his height to head home the winner.

Excellent performances came from all of the TOFC players, with particularly strong games from Colton Walker (Salmon Arm), Matt McHugh (West Kelowna) and Austin Schneebeli (Salmon Arm).
