After a first-round exit in his Wimbledon debut last year, Vernon’s Vasek Pospisil is returning to the All-England Club for a second swing at the Grand Slam event this week.
Pospisil, the world No. 99, opens play in the main draw Monday in London against 131st ranked Frenchman Marc Gicquel.
The 6-foot-4, 180 pound Pospisil, who now lives in Freeport, Bahamas and trains in Vancouver, joins Canadians Eugenie Bouchard (Westmount, Que.), Jesse Levine (Ottawa) and Milos Raonic (Thornhill, Ont.) in singles play.
Toronto veteran Daniel Nestor will be the fifth Canadian representative as the sixth seed in the doubles draw alongside Robert Lindstedt of Sweden. Bouchard, Levine and 22-year-old Pospisil will also be playing doubles.
For his opening match, Raonic, the top-ranked Canadian at No. 17, takes on Carlos Berlocq of Argentina, who is ranked No. 72.
Bouchard is the lone Canadian in the women’s draw. The 19-year-old won the first Grand Slam main draw match of her career at Roland-Garros a few weeks ago. She will try and win her second against world No. 86 Galina Voskoboeva of Kazakhstan.
Bouchard was crowned junior singles and doubles champion at Wimbledon in 2012.
