Victoria cools Junior Blaze win streak

Langley's five-game winning streak comes to an end at the hands of Junior Mariners

The Langley Junior Blaze saw their five-game winning streak come to a halt on Monday afternoon.

The U16 baseball club dropped both ends of a doubleheader, losing 5-4 and 11-5 to the visiting Victoria Junior Mariners at Langley’s City Park.

Langley’s record fell to 24-13 and they sit in third place in BC Junior Premier Baseball League action.

Langley did not help their cause in either game, committing two errors in game one and another four in game two.

Game one saw the teams tied at four after five innings but Victoria plated the eventual winning run in the top of the sixth.

Carson Chorpita led the Blaze offence with a pair of RBIs while Brandon Nicoll and Brendan Winning each brought home one run.

Ryan Blight was tagged with the loss, allowing four runs over 4.2 innings, before giving way to the bullpen.

The Blaze led 5-3 after three innings in the second game but Victoria had back-to-back three-run innings in the fifth and sixth and then tacked on another pair in the top of the seventh.

Winning added another pair of RBIs while Nick Holdershaw and Ryan Beitel had one run driven in apiece.

Winning leads Langley with 26 RBIs and he sits five back of the league lead.

Terrell Rogers took the loss, allowing three runs over two innings.

Langley closes the regular season with a doubleheader on July 13 at McLeod Athletic Park against the Victoria Junior Eagles — games are at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. — before a road game on July 17 in North Vancouver against the Junior Twins.
