Victoria Mariners are set to take part in one of the biggest pre-season baseball showcases in the” Best of the West” tournament held at McArthur Island Park in Kamloops starting today.
“This showcase tournament is considered to be one of the best pre draft tournaments in the country for scouts to assess the West Coast talent prior to the MLB June amateur draft,” said Marty Lehn of Big League Experience.
Ten invited teams will be competing from B.C. and Alberta including top rated Langley Blaze, Vauxhall Academy and Edmonton Prospects.
“Our team is one of the top teams competing this weekend in the tournament and certainly will be one of the top three teams in the BCPBL this year, ”said Mike Chewpoy, Victoria Mariners coach. “The top players to watch for will be our own Colton Wood, Chris Fougner as well as Kristjan Storrie from Langley and Mike Soroka from Calgary.”
Teams competing in this tournament have been pre-selected based on their performances in last year’s season. The Victoria Mariners won the qualifier for the Tournament in the fall.
