The Victoria Shamrocks and Burnaby Lakers are set to renew hostilities tonight for the first time since a hard-fought seven-game series ended in a ‘Rocks win in last year’s Western Lacrosse Association playoffs.
The first round series, which Victoria led 3-0 only to see the Lakers claw back to force a seventh game, ended in a 14-11 ‘Rocks win at The Q Centre.
That’ll be the site for the Shamrocks’ second game of the 2017 season, having secured a nail-biting 10-9 win over the Langley Thunder last week.
Rookie Cody Nass led the way for head coach Bob Heyes, impressing the home crowd with two goals and five assists in his WLA debut, including the winning goal with just 4.8 seconds left on the clock.
Mike Triolo and Corey Small had five points apiece, while goaltender Cody Hagedorn made 28 saves on 37 shots in the win.
Veterans Chris Wardle and Greg Harnett are expected to make their season debuts tonight against the Lakers.
The Lakers have yet to take the floor in the 2017 season. They’ll have top scorers Robert Church and Jason Jones back from the team that proved to be a tough out for the Shamrocks last year.
The opening face-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
