The Victoria Shamrocks might be best know for their power offense, but evidently they can keep things pretty clean in their own zone as well.
The ‘Rocks remained perfect with a tight-checking 5-4 win over the New Westminster Salmonbellies on Thursday night in the club’s first road contest of the young season.
Goaltender Cody Hagedorn was stout in the Victoria net, stopping 45 of the 49 shots he faced for his third win.
Offensively, Sheldon Burns led the way with two goals for a Shamrocks club that relied on its depth while playing without top scorer Rhys Duch.
Cole Pickup chipped in a pair of points, including his second goal of the season, while Chris Wardle and Tristan Rai had the other scores for the Shamrocks.
The Salmonbellies took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission, but the Shamrocks made the second period count, scoring four goals and shutting out their opponents to give themselves a 5-2 cushion heading into the final frame.
A pair of Salmonbellies goals less than a minute apart made things interesting, but Victoria was able to secure the win.
The ‘Rocks will be right back on the floor tonight when they welcome the 0-1 Coquitlam Adanacs to The Q Centre.
