Victoria’s Danielle Leipoldt outpaced before the competition before collapsing at the finish line to claim gold in the girls triathlon Friday morning at Albert Dyck Park.
Leipoldt was followed by Vancouver Island teammate Colette Reimer who finished just seconds later.
Vancouver-Coastal’s Emmajean Neal claimed bronze, while teammate Hannah Milic finished fourth.
The triathlon saw the athletes complete a 500-metre swim in Albert Dyck Lake, a 10-kilometre bike ride on a road course in the area, followed by a three-kilometre run comprising two laps of the lake.
The exhausting event will be followed by the same athletes competing in a duathlon – comprising running and cycling events – Friday afternoon.
